I am deeply concerned that the government is considering removing such a large portion of Wasaga Beach from the Provincial Park and am very much opposed to this action.
I don't buy the argument that the town needs this to further their economic development, as if the town is struggling. To turn over the Beach to development will degrade the natural beauty of the park, endanger species at risk and place others under stress. Commercial interests cannot be trusted and have no interest in managing such responsibilities such as monitoring, studying and fostering bird populations. The Piping Plover, which is endangered, has critical nesting grounds in the Park. To remove this habitat could mean the loss of the species. We have to take this seriously. Every bit of natural degradation adds up and can lead to bigger consequences.
There is such economic value in the park as is, that is, as a beautiful natural area/ habitat/ nesting ground. This is what draws in so many to the park. Let us keep it public, accessible to all. Let's Keep It Beautiful.
