Wasaga Beach Provincial Park isn’t just a summer destination, it’s one of the last remaining nesting grounds for the endangered Piping Plover in Ontario. These tiny shorebirds have made a fragile comeback since 2007, thanks to years of careful stewardship and protection.
This is now all at risk given the repealed critical protection through the Endangered Species Act when Bill 5 made it through the legislature.
Further the proposal of selling chunks of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for development is abhorrent. This land includes critical nesting habitat for the Piping Plover, which could be lost forever if this goes through. Further, it will be easier to sell provincial parks for development. This is not the will of the people.
