I am deeply concerned that Wasaga Beach council (this one or any future council ) is up to the monumental task of protecting the worlds longest freshwater beach for generations to come . It is a huge environmental responsibility . Current legislation allows developers and property owners to clear cut old growth trees. The town still requires new home lots to be sodded or have landscape fabric under bark, both extremely outdated , environmentally un-friendly practices. Homes beside the river and beach have sod lawns and are allowed to use fertilizers that leach into the river and bay causing algae and weed overgrowth. For these few reasons alone , I would need to know that the town was under detailed environmental guidelines to protect the beach. Without that , I do not trust the towns elected officials to do so.
