Wassaga beach and its municipality have long been a popular destination for Ontarians to enjoy. Ontario place and Trillium Park had been a popular destination for festivals, picnics, and recreation until the province signed a misleading contract with Therme. The Therme private spa redevelopment, which has also affected the Ontario Science Centre forcing its closure to further promote the Therme Spa redevelopment, has proven that the province cannot be trusted to act on the best interests of the local residents, nor respecting or fulfilling it's indigenous treaty obligations. Wassa beach does not need to be redeveloped or touched by the private sector. It should be the local residents, the Anishinaabeg and Wyandot peoples who get to decide what happens with the beach. This is incredible important for not just preservation of the land, but to ensure the public always has access to the Wasaga beach we all love. The province's role in the redevelopment should be simply funding and approving the respective enhancements proposed by the residents, not the ones by private developers or corporate speculation.
