I am a resident of Wasaga Beach and I DO NOT favour or support the proposed legislative amendments to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006, and Historical Parks Act to support the Town of Wasaga Beach’s Tourism Enhancement Proposal.
The proposed transferred areas include ecologically sensitive greenspaces, such as sand dunes, wetlands, and Piping Plover habitat. Selling or developing greenspace could harm endangered species and erode the park’s ecological value, especially since areas like “The Point” in Beach Area 1 are designated as provincially significant Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest and I fear that once the land is removed from park protection, it could lose the ecological safeguards enforced by Ontario Parks, potentially allowing the town (current and future) to sell or develop greenspace.
