The beaches should be preserved for many reasons. There are endangered birds- Piping Plovers- which use this beach for a critical life process (nesting). Wasaga beach is one of the few beaches in Ontario where this species finds it suitable to nest. Secondly, the natural state of the beach should be respected as the natural spaces in Ontario are dwindling down as they are sold off to be private developed land. Tourists come to the beach for the beach itself. Ecotourism should be promoted through improvement and conservation of the natural habitat. Speaking as a wildlife biologist working in the field for 5 years, with a degree in wildlife biology, I do not want to see this critical habitat destroyed.
