I am writing to express deep concern over the Ontario government's proposal to transfer and develop significant portions of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. This plan, which includes removing nearly one-third of the park from protection and selling off key beachfront areas, threatens one of Ontario’s most cherished natural environments.

Wasaga Beach is not only the world’s longest freshwater beach—it is also a vital ecological habitat. The areas targeted for development include mature sand dunes, provincially significant wetlands, and critical nesting grounds for the endangered piping plover. These ecosystems provide essential services such as shoreline stabilization, flood mitigation, and biodiversity preservation, especially important in the face of climate change.

Beyond its ecological value, Wasaga Beach is a public treasure. It belongs to the people of Ontario and should be preserved for future generations, not handed over for commercial tourism development. Weakening the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act to facilitate this transfer sets a dangerous precedent that could jeopardize the integrity of protected lands across the province.

I urge the government to reconsider this course of action and instead invest in sustainable tourism and conservation strategies that respect the ecological significance of Wasaga Beach.
