I am opposed to this proposal. Wasaga Beach is and essential breeding ground for piping plovers, a near-threatened bird species that is native to the area. Piping plovers are sensitive to recreational use of their beaches - the Great Lakes population has historically been as low as 16 breeding pairs in the 80s, when human use of beaches they needed for nesting caused the species to enter a sharp decline. We should learn from the mistakes of the past, not repeat them. Bad press from environmental and animal conservation groups could greatly harm all businesses in Wasaga Beach.
