It is absolutely imperative that the zones of land proposed to be transferred remain within the MECP's control to ensure proper conservation and environmental protection are maintained. This region is protected for many endangered species including the Piping Plover. A link has been provided detailing the region's importance to the Piping Plover's survival and ongoing conservation.
Additionally, this proposed land transfer disregards the public's right to access the area in a safe and accessible manner.
Beach Areas 1, 2, New Wasaga, and Nancy's Island should remain in control of the MECP and therefore the right of the animals and people who visit freely through our provincial park system.
The township already has possession of the Allenwood section and has proceeded with renovations to sections of Wasaga. Extension of this provides no benefits to the conservation of the region and permits residential development that destroys public beach access.
