Provincial Parks belong to the people of Ontario and are meant to be protected forever. It is reprehensible that the current government is trying to sell big parts of one of our most popular parks, and make changes to the legislation that protects all of our Provincial Parks. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks should retain control and administration over Nancy Island and the entirety of Wasaga Beach. I am very concerned that proposed amendments will weaken legislation that protects public parks and environmentally sensitive areas. How will long-term stewardship of the these lands be affected? Wasaga Beach is a nesting site for the critically endangered Piping Plover. I am fearful that motives for short-term commercial gain will have long lasting and devasting impact on the health of surrounding areas.
