One of the most valuable and sacred parts of living in Ontario is its access to nature. I’ve seen firsthand waterfronts which have been privatized in cities like Miami and waterfronts which have remained free and accessible in cities like Chicago. Having access to nature is extremely important for mental and physical health, and what’s beautiful about living in Ontario is being able to access natural beauty in our provincial parks. In places like Miami where the waterfront is highly privatized, it feels like the city is a private playground for the rich and class stratification is deeply felt. The provincial government should not be allowed to sell off public lands for the benefit of private developers.
