I call on the Ontario Government to ensure the protection of the Piping Plover habitat on Wasaga Beach. We must ensure that endangered species, such as the Piping Plover, are protected. Every bird, insect, animal, etc. is part of the balance of ecosystems. Healthy ecosystems are necessary for humans to thrive as well.
The government should ensure the protection of Piping Plovers by protecting the area they use to nest. This nesting ground is the most productive in the province. Protection should include restricting mechanical raking and protecting the nesting area with fencing and predator protection. Additionally, organizations such as Birds Canada should be engaged to ensure the ongoing protection of these endangered birds.
Sites such as these are critical to ensuring another species is not lost. They also draw in tourism as many come to Wasaga Beach to see these amazing shorebirds.
