I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006 and the changes to the Historical Parks Act concerning Wasaga Beach.
While I understand the intention to restore heritage and promote tourism, this proposal threatens one of Ontario’s most valued natural areas. Wasaga Beach is not only the longest freshwater beach in the world, it is also home to sensitive ecosystems and endangered species such as the piping plover. Weakening existing protections could cause irreversible harm to this fragile environment.
Economic growth and heritage restoration are important, but they should not come at the expense of natural habitat and biodiversity. There are other ways to support local tourism that do not involve sacrificing shoreline, dunes, or protected wildlife.
I urge you to reconsider this approach and prioritize long-term sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the preservation of public natural spaces for future generations.
Sincerely
