I am really worried that this proposal will threaten the Piping Plover, which is listed as an endangered species both federally and in Ontario. Wasaga Beach is one of the most important nesting sites for this species, if not the most important, in Ontario. It was through the careful stewardship of Ontario Parks that the Piping Plover was able to be re-established there. Now this plan may obliterate them from the area because their main nesting locations are in Beach Area 1, New Wasaga beach area and Allenwood beach area, and these are all included in your plan to be transferred to the town.
At a time when we are losing species at an alarming rate, you come along with this plan which could undo years of careful work to establish and maintain these nesting grounds and extirpate the Piping Plover from the area, all for the sake of development. What a shining example to Ontario, Canada and the world of bad governance!
Moreover, provincial park lands, including Wasaga Beach, have been set aside for important scientific, conservation and cultural reasons for the benefit of Ontarians as well as for nature and must be preserved.
I am fine with development, but sometimes it can go too far. This is plan might be one of those times.
Please do not transfer these beach areas to the town for development. They must be preserved and protected for the sake of future generations as well as for the natural world.
