I am opposed to the proposal as Provincial parks belong to the people of Ontario.
As such we have a duty to protect the lands and parks, especially where the habitat is home to endangered species, as in this case the piping plover. As well provincially important wetlands that capture carbon must not be changed in the interest of fighting climate change. Selling off 60 % of the park is not necessary for tourism development as evidenced by the fact that the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is the second most popular park. We must not let short-term profits override long-term environmental and public good.
I call for the Ford government to immediately halt this proposed sale of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park land and their plan to weaken the PPCRA and to recommit to the protection of Ontario's parks as promised.
