As a manager of conservation lands throughout the province, and an avid rock climber, I am uniquely well positioned to comment on this issue. Climbing and conservation can coexist through the clear delineation of climbing areas, a strong relationship with the Ontario Alliance of Climbers and clear communication regarding route development, and basic education among the climbing population regarding the conservator values at Devils Glen (and more broadly, the Niagara Escarpment).

The largest obstacle to conservation and climbing coexisting effectively is Ontario Parks unwillingness to adequately staff operational Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves. Minimal staff presence to educate trail users and enforce regulations already in place would successfully abate any issues related to climbing at Devils Glen.
