The natural breeding habitats of Piping Plovers are essential to their continuation as a species- and they ONLY have environmental protection if the land is federally owned. The land is currently used and loved under federal jurisdiction, and harbours adorable little birds just trying to start families amid rapid urbanization. I mean, how would you feel if it were YOUR kids under such threat? If you ask any conservation organization, such as Birds Canada, they will stress the importance of maintaining what little habitat we have left. Space, funding, and dedicated stewardship of this land will allow us to continue to have the diverse and beautiful country that we enjoy so much. Once it’s gone, or mechanically raked beyond use, it’s gone forever. Just look at those birds little faces- don’t you want to protect them under federal law? They need you to keep the land, and they need us- and nobody will be worse off, but they will continue to try to thrive. If the federal government keeps the land, and dedicated organizations are able to continue to protect and preserve these birds through habitat conservation, nesting buffer zones, and restriction on mechanical activities, they CAN continue. Please, they just want to live like us, please continue to allow the land to be protected under its only hope, FEDERALLY OWNED PARKS. Thank you for your time.
