Piping Plovers are a species which contributes to the biodiversity of Ontario's natural surroundings. Every species is an important link in the web of life and must be maintained. Biodiversity is our greatest natural defense against climate change.
We urge the Government of Ontario to continue to protect the conservation efforts of the Piping Plover at Wasaga Beach, so that this species can survive in Ontario. The Ontario Government must ensure that Piping Plovers are conserved and protected by a science-based management plan and resources that:
• Reduces threats to Piping Plover and their habitat year-round by restricting mechanical raking so that the habitat is not destroyed, prohibiting dune alteration, and protecting nests with fenced buffer zones and natural predator mitigations.
• Commits funding to protect, conserve, and steward Piping Plovers, their nests, and their habitats.
• Engages experts like Birds Canada at development and implementation phases.
Conservation efforts can greatly assist all life both now and in the future. Please demonstrate value for the foundation of life ---- biodiversity.
