I've written a letter to Orillia Matters which has been published and same letter was also published by Barrie News, August 6, 2025 indicating my thoughts about the sale of approximately 140 acres of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park including 60% of the beach front where piping plovers nest and which also includes fragile sand dunes. Here are comments in my letter in part.
All or most of the work in trying to protect this fragile species nesting area will have been in vain. This is nothing more than destruction of our inherited provincial parkland for short-term and short-sighted gain.
I'm not against the buildings being built where the shops were. Most were tacky and in need of repair, if not a complete overhaul.
It is the thought of encroaching on the provincial parklands, which my whole family has loved to visit since the 1950's - just as much now as then that is the most concerning.
How lucky we have been to to enjoy and treasure this beautiful place and how sad to think of the beach raking and destruction that would surely commence once that part of the beach has changed hands.
We do not want this to happen to our beloved Wasaga Beach Provincial Park or any of our precious provincial parks in what could become a slow erosion of what Canadians hold most dear - our cherished and protected natural places. These parks BELONG TO ALL OF US.
