I am writing to express my very deep concern that this proposal might spell the end for the population of piping plovers at Wasaga Beach. Many hours of study, conservation, and monitoring have resulted in a management plan under Ontario Parks jurisdiction that has kept this population of plovers healthy for many years.
It would be shameful if these efforts were wasted by ill conceived plans going forward that might devastate this excellent piping plover habitat and set conservation efforts back irrevocably.
It is my hope that the existing conservation and management plans overseen by Ontario Parks will continue to support the plovers, and that the experts at Birds Canada will be consulted about any changes to the Beach environment which would impact the future of these beautiful birds.
