I'm seriously worried about the plan to transfer Wasaga Beach land from Ontario Parks to the Town. This is a huge problem for the endangered Piping Plovers that nest there.
With the recent changes to the Endangered Species Act, this land transfer would leave the plovers' habitat with no legal protection at all. The future of these birds would be entirely up to the Town, which is a massive and unnecessary risk.
We need to keep strong protections in place. Please make sure there's a science-based plan with funding to protect plover habitat from things like raking and development. And please, listen to experts like Birds Canada. We can't let a conservation success story be undone.
