I am extremely concerned about the future of piping ploversat Wasaga Beach. These highly endangered shorebirds need all the help they ca nget and Wasaga Beach is the most productive and valuable nesting habitat in Ontario.

Under the management and protection of Ontario Parks, WasagaBeach has hosted 57 nests and successfully raised 87 fledglings!

Wasaga is also one of few accessible and reliable sites for visitors to see piping plovers in the province. As a birder and wildlife photographer, it has been my great pleasure to watch these adorable birds raise their chicks on the beach, a true highlight for me. Tourists from all over travel to Wasaga for this amazing experience, available in few other places.

Therefore, it is most urgent that the Ontario Government ensure that piping plovers of Wasaga (and elsewhere) are conserved and protected by a science-based management plan and resources that:

1. Reduces threats to the plovers and their habitat year-round by: restricting mechanical raking so that the habitat is not destroyed; prohibiting dune alteration; and protecting nests with fenced buffer zones and natural predator mitigations.

2. Commits funding to protect, conserve, and steward piping plovers, their nests, and their habitats.

3. Engages experts like Birds Canada at development and implementation phases.

Please ensure every possible measure is taken to ensure survival of piping plover
