I grew up in Clearview…

I grew up in Clearview township and my first job was a gate attendant at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. I think selling off the park property from Beach area 2 - New Wasaga/Allenwood is OUTRAGEOUS, for the future environmental protection of the beach (that I spent so many hours picking up garbage on, proudly wearing my park uniform and representing this province), the future of the endangered piping plover that calls Beach Area 1 home, and for the town itself.

I support fixing up the town, encouraging small businesses like restaurants and shops to open on the strip and bring vibrancy back to the town’s economy. But ONCE THAT LAND IS SOLD, IT CAN NEVER BE BOUGHT BACK.

This will do as the Ford government has done time and time again, putting terrible business ideas that line the pockets of few over the benefit of the majority of Ontario citizens. Whose to say that a private owner won’t bar beach area 1 from public beach entry? Continue protections from the piping plovers? Continue to keep the peak of beach 1 where the beach meets the river forbidden from entry due to the undertow that has killed swimmers time and time again (a shift I will never, NEVER forget).

It’s time to put the people over the profits, this is the beach for Ontario residents, not Ontario businesses.
