Firstly, land designated as a part of a provincial park is indented to protect the land and maintain habitat for already vulnerable and at risk species. It is also intended to protect the land for future generations. Transferring ownership of so much of the beach area to the MTCG will NOT protect this land and will potentially lead to its development noting the Historical Parks Act does not have the same level of land/habitat protection woven into it.
Secondly, this is a slippery slope which may open the door to changes to other provincial parks with negative consequences.
I really hope this proposal is not accepted. It is not escaping me that Collingwood and Wasaga beach area has seen a huge shift in retirees moving there, especially from the GTA, and this appears to be a creative way to open up additional land and prime beach front for development.
