Wasaga Beach Provincial Park…

Comment

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is public land that has been protected and enjoyed by generations of Canadians. Proposing to sell off any amount of it, let alone 60%, is absolutely atrocious and unacceptable.

This isn’t just about a beach. It’s about our shared heritage, Canada's natural beauty, and our right to hold the government accountable when they make decisions that will affect us all for generations to come.

There are endangered species living in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and natural coastline beach habitats are diminishing in Ontario. Therefore, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park holds both ecological and cultural value.

Selling off provincial parkland sets a dangerous precedent. The proposal by the government appears to include changes to how provincial parks operate and may make it easier for the government to dismantle, develop, and sell off portions of provincial parks all across Ontario.

We have a duty to conserve and protect what we’ve inherited for all future generations of Canadians. Not only does it hold significant cultural value, but also allows us to live in harmony with our environment to protect all forms of life. That life holds a much greater value than any potential for tourism.

I unequivocally oppose this ridiculous proposal and call on the government to rescind it and discontinue all plans for development in protected areas including parks.

Keep our public lands in public hands!
