I'm the 3rd generation of my family to spend time at Wasaga and of course I've taken my children and now grandchildren. I can still remember driving down Moseley st and seeing inflables and beach toys everywhere, so exciting for a child. We stayed in a cabin located in oakview beach, now Beach area 3, right beside the now existing change room. The rentals were weekly and the same families rented year after year. Families used the grocery store, bakery, pharmacy and restaurants. Days were spent on the beach and evenings were spent playing mini golf, going to the dairy for ice cream or going to the main n drag for rides and games. The owners of the cottage courts were responsible for putting out garbage cans and emptying them more than once a day and also cleaning up any garbage left at the end of the day. Because families enjoyed staying at the beach year after year they had respect for their surroundings unlike now, day beach visitors that will just go other places if the beach isn't clean. Changing the beach to day use also brought trouble. More police were needed. Now although more changes are coming I fear more issues. We were there last week and planned to park in a municipal lot but it was twice as expensive as the provincial lot with nothing but a dirty outhouse. Can we expect to pay double if the town takes a larger portion of the beach? Will only the rich be able to afford to park or will public access be denied? Richmond Hill had a small beach at Lake Wilcox. Not the best but accessible to those without vehicles and now that no longer exists. Why? Because with all the new homes built there the water was contaminated. Is this what Wasaga can expect?
