Do not hand over/ sell…

Do not hand over/ sell Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to the Town of Wasaga Beach. Such a transfer sets a dangerous precedent for the protection of natural spaces and species in Ontario. We should be protecting more spaces, not less.
The areas proposed for transfer are habitat for the endangered piping plover, which is monitored by Ministry of Natural Resources staff. Such monitoring is necessary for the plovers to nest on the beach. The eastern end of Beach 1 is now fenced off and humans are prohibited from entering that area to protect the habitat for plants and species, including plovers. Humans already enter that area and it will only get worse if the land is handed over to the Town.
The mayor of Wasaga Beach seems determined to develop the western beach areas (1, 2, Allenwood and New Wasaga beaches), which will destroy the natural habitat and the calming experience in nature these areas now offer. A massive hotel is not my idea of what I want to see when visiting this natural oasis. Besides, several hotels/ condominiums sit empty 9 or 10 months of the year. Remember, this is Canada and few people visit the beach, which is windy and cold, in the off season.
