I oppose the proposal to open up a portion of WasagaBeach Provincial Park to development, in part because this will remove critical environmental protections, specifically critical habitat that species such as the endangered piping plover rely on to survive.
This proposal, if approved, will also set a precedent that will enable other Provincial Parks across the province to sell off property for development. Provincial parks were created to set aside and permanently protect public land, both for public recreation spaces, and to protect wildlife habitat, wetlands, forests and other natural spaces.
It is completely unnecessary to sacrifice irreplaceable natural spaces and wildlife habitat in order to achieve economic success. request that this proposal be withdrawn, and a long term plan that protects habitat in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park be created.
