I am a Yukoner who loves and cares about Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and Nancy Island Historic Site! For many decades I have had a keen appreciation for—and a family connection to—Nancy Island.
In light of the above, I’m deeply concerned about the Wasaga Beach Park beachfront and the proposal to give the beachfront (which is an important part of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park) to a municipality where there is no plan in place of what that land would be used for, and no consultation with the public.
I am further concerned that the provincial government are reallocating 3% of the entire total of the parkland, yet that 3% really matters to me. This 3% is environmentally critical and includes 100% of the nesting grounds for the piping plovers. And this 3% also represents over 60% of the beachfront!
I have a family connection to Nancy Island, yet whenever I’m here, I explore Wasaga Beach. Even though I live on the other side of Canada, this is the sixth time I’ve visited these two parks. I’ve been hearing about the proposed changes, which are very concerning matters that matter to me.
