I strongly urge the Ontario government to reject any proposals to develop protected land in Wasaga Beach, particularly areas that serve as critical nesting grounds for the endangered piping plover. Wasaga Beach is one of the few remaining habitats in Ontario where these vulnerable birds can safely breed, and any disturbance or loss of this habitat could severely impact their recovery. Development in this area would undermine the province’s commitments under the Endangered Species Act and threaten decades of conservation work. Preserving this land is not only an environmental obligation but a moral one—Ontario must prioritize the long-term protection of its natural heritage over short-term development interests.
