I am concerned that the proposed land transfer of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park land to the town of Wasaga will put Ontario’s Endangered Piping Plovers at even higher risk.
As a member of the Toronto Ornithological Club and Ontario Field Ornithologists I have learned that Wasaga Beach’s provincial park beaches are the most productive breeding location in Ontario for the piping plover.
It would be a huge conservation setback if these beaches lose the protections of Ontario Parks.
We should be protecting lakeside habitats with natural protections against erosion.
We should be expanding provincial parks and conservation lands NOT selling out. Conservation benefits all citizens providing natural spaces to improve mental health and tourist destinations,
Economic Development should be able to work within conservation efforts.
