It’s hard not to feel hopeless watching Ontario keep dismantling the protections that are supposed to safeguard our future. We’ve already seen endangered species laws gutted this year, and now Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is being carved up. Nancy Island and whole beaches stripped from the park system in the name of “revitalization.” It’s so shortsighted. Other countries have found ways to grow tourism that respect nature for example: integrating trails, shorelines, and habitats into vibrant destinations without selling them off. We could do the same, but instead we’re choosing the quickest, cheapest path. Once these landscapes are gone, there’s no rebuilding them. I don’t want a future where we remember what we destroyed more vividly than what we saved.
