Allowing recreational activities in provincial parks motivates users to want to protect the ecological integrity of the parks. Rock climbers have long been stewards of the escarpment and have shown how this natural resource can be preserved while providing sustainable access for recreational use, The Ontario Alliance of Climbers in particular have been instrumental in fostering this ethos of protecting the climbing areas in Ontario by showing new climbers how to practice the activity respectfully.
The OAC has also helped develop climbing management plans in conjunction with Park and Conservation Managers at Bon Echo, TIffany Falls, Metcalfe, Old Baldy, Bruce Peninsula, Niagara Glen, Rattlesnake Point and Kelso. The OAC has the respect of the climbing community and their connection to new climbers in rock climbing gyms has influenced new comers to this sport as well as the well seasoned veterans.
