Local firefighters are not equipped with the specialized training, equipment and knowledge to safely combat a lithium-ion battery fire, which will result in an environmental disaster. A BESS fire can require thousands of gallons of water per minute and can last hours to days. Nothing has been done to prevent the contaminated water from entering the tile drainage system already in the ground, which flows to the Scotch River and eventually the South Nation river.
