The following have never been addressed by Compass Inc. The company did the bare minimum in notifying the community, of which at the time our local newspaper closed before the first public meeting in 2023.

The following should be considered before approving such an application.

Comments on:

Summary:
The absence of Mohawk Council consultation is a fatal flaw, requiring suspension of the application until addressed.

Please request plans for firewater containment, hydrogeological protection, and drainage impacts, certified by a Professional Engineer.

Please request full transparency of supporting documents to ensure public and regulatory scrutiny.

Why is such a facility allowed on prime agricultural land near Highway 417, when the neighbouring municipality of St. Isidore, Ontario refused?

I urge the MECP to reject or suspend the application until Compass provides a detailed Indigenous Consultation Report demonstrating meaningful, documented engagement with the Mohawk Council, addressing their concerns about water, land, and treaty rights.

I request that Compass submit a detailed Firewater Management Plan, certified by a Professional Engineer, specifying containment capacity, treatment methods for toxic runoff, and disposal protocols to prevent contamination of local water systems.

I request that Compass make all supporting documents publicly available, including site plans, stormwater management reports, and spill contingency plans, to allow for proper public and regulatory scrutiny.

Insist that Compass provide a detailed hydrological assessment identifying all drainage pathways, including any drain tiles, and their potential to carry contaminants to local watercourses, with specific mitigation measures.

Isn’t Compass required to submit a comprehensive Hydrogeological Assessment, certified by a qualified professional, to model contaminant migration and protect groundwater resources.

I urge Compass to include a detailed Decommissioning Plan with financial security to ensure responsible battery recycling and site restoration.

A formal Fire Safety Plan, was never provided to the community, shouldn’t the North Glengarry Fire Department and North Glengarry Township offer written assurance, specifying water supply, training, and containment measures for toxic firewater if a thermo runaway event occurs.

I urge Compass to assess and mitigate thermal pollution risks, ensuring runoff does not harm local aquatic and agricultural ecosystems.

Compass should provide proof of consultation with the Township, RRCA, and residents, addressing concerns about safety, property values, and environmental impacts.

Was a detailed Noise Impact Assessment conducted and, if applicable, an EIS to protect local ecosystems, cattle, milk cows, agricultural farm land, and ensure compliance with noise regulations.

Insurance, no information provided on how to obtain compensation if a thermal runaway occurs, as evidence identifies the toxic smoke over the impending fire.

What happens to the prime agricultural farm land, one of the key industries that support North Glengarry Township.
