This is an astonishingly bad policy based on politics and ideology rather than reason. We are in a climate crisis and rapidly running out of time to cut fossil fuel emissions. Yes, renewables are primarily sourced in China. In the Wynn years there were attempts to build them here. We need to build them here now, but we need to transition quickly. This legislation is another attempt to artificially extend the life of an oil and gas industry that will doom our children and grandchildren to an unlivable climate as well as costing far more than cheaper renewables. And ordinary citizens will bear the cost of these short-sighted political choices far into the future.
Hydrogen is fine if it's green. But other renewables are better.
And despite all the contempt for China, and distrust for China, our "great friend" to the south is just as dangerous (maybe more so) and may not be a democracy in the very near future. I'd prefer we forget the politics and get on with saving the planet.
