I am a Canadian that is born and raised in rural Ontario, and I am absolutely appalled at this proposition. The area I live in within Ontario has one of the highest numbers of diverse biological life and species, and this area also has the highest rates of species at risk. We need to stop ignoring this ecological crisis to prioritize economic growth. Evidence-based conservation is extremely important, and it should not politically vetoed by individuals who do not have appropriate applicable knowledge.
Bring back mandatory recovery plans. "Habitat" includes so much more than nesting areas, and restricting this definition would harm so many species at risk by eliminating food sources, which is just one element of many. Reinstate the Advisory Committee. Reverse the exclusion of migratory birds and of aquatic species. Our Ontario waterways are so important and essential to so many lives.
Species protection is more important than economic growth.
