I strongly oppose the changes in this bill. Economic growth CANNOT come before the protection of species. You have no idea what ramifications are going to happen when just one species goes extinct, even if just in Ontario. Other species could fall too, diseases can skyrocket, pests get out of control, seeds aren’t dispersed, further habitat loss, etc. Scientific findings should not be at the whims of politics, we NEED to protect evidence-based conservation. You cannot narrow the definition of habitat. This is such a stupid thing to do. We REQUIRE mandatory recovery plans. Conservations is about the long term goal, it cannot be about constantly applying short-term bandaids. Reinstate the advisory committee. Reverse the exclusion of aquatic species and migratory birds. That is such a moronic thing to do. The lives of these animals matters infinitely more than some shareholder’s profits. Everyone will suffer if you refuse to protect the environment. Also please stop the exemption of permits from public comment. I thought this government was supposed to prioritize communication and transparency.
