This legislation prioritizes short-term economic growth ahead of long term gains that environmental conservation provides. The exclusion of aquatic species and migratory birds from consideration is either deliberately sabotaging our ecosystem in the name of greed, or simply ignorant to the interconnectedness on which our society depends. Narrowing the definition of a habitat is clearly only being done to make it easier to develop land that should be protected. I am beyond disappointed that these amendments are being considered.
Anyone that supports this legislation clearly has no regard for the economic and health benefits that intact, biodiverse ecosystems can provide to us. As such, anyone who is in favour of these amendments will never have my support.
