Strongly oppose ERO 025-0909 Proposed legislative and regulatory amendments to enable the Species Conservation Act, 2025.

In order to represent the interests of Canadian citizens, I am requesting the restoration of office of the Environmental Ccmmissioner of Ontario, who would provide an unbiased opinion on changes to environmental protection laws.

I strongly oppose dropping from provincial protection species of special concern (monarch, snapping turtle to name a few), as well as all fish and migratory birds. It is disingenuous to suggest that our federal department of Environment & Climate Change Canada will protect these abandoned species. The feds might protect species on federal lands like national parks and military bases, but I understand that they have no system of field offices for inspection and complaint follow-up. The reality is that protection of endangered species will only happen if it is done during the planning stages of development.

When Canadians see the destruction of critical habitat and harm to the dropped 102 species of special concern, fish and migratory birds, and they attempt to complain, there will be no government body charged with responding. The Ontario government must be aware of this. I can only deduce that they don't care about endangered species or critical habitat.

Compounding this is that the Ontario Minister can issue an exemption to bypass species protection for the remaining 169 protected species, so that Canadian citizens will lose their right to enquire, comment or appeal in those instances. By removing rights granted under the Environmental Bill of Rights, I can only deduce that this government does not care about the concerns of the citizens of Ontario.
