Municipalities are the subject matter experts for what is best for their communities. Let them make policy for their residents.
Not all roads are meant for excessive car use. Some roads should be mixed use, for bikes, cars, pedestrians, and transit. The aversion to the creation of complete communities is incredibly concerning and lends to the authoritarian path Ontario is on.
Why would a provincial government over-govern in a realm where they are not expressly involved? What moral right does the province have to decide who is safe on municipal roads, and whose transportation is more justified?
Bill 60 is bad policymaking. Ministers and the Premier can let their partisan, zero-sum ethics govern their behaviour, but not Ontarians. Policy should be positive-sum, not subject to the political will of the day.
