I oppose the proposal to list Double-Crested Cormorants as game birds and the creation of a hunting season to kill these birds. There is no substantial research to support the claims of some groups that Double-Crested Cormorants reduce fish populations or have a negative impact on the environment. Double-Crested Cormorants are native birds for Ontario and need to be protected. Wildlife in Ontario needs to be protected including preventing a cruel hunting season because of unjustified claims.
I am a recent graduate of Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration, and I believe allowing the hunting season of Double-Crested Cormorants without substantial evidence of their negative impact on the environment is a wrong policy choice. Policy needs to be based on research and different options need to be considered before allowing hunting of native species.
