With due respect the insanity of thinking killing off the cormorants will benefit the fish populations is actually the reverse of what will happen. Cormorants actually increase the natural health of the fish populations and the killing off of cormorants, which will happen if this bill is enacted, will have the same effect as the killing off of wolves did on animals and habitat in the areas this has been attempted. The balance of population and natural health of the fish populations and other species is aided by the cormorants in removing the slower and invasive species of fish not native to the habitats the cormorants are travelling through or living in. Pesticides and herbicides are the more common source for destroying fish populations, island forest habitats and other species. Using an argument as flimsy as aesthetics for killing off the cormorants is no different than saying you want to kill off the ugly toads because they take away from the beauty of other amphibians. In my understanding protecting cormorants is the essential priority of conservation so agreeing to allow them to be killed off in the manner suggested in this legislation is against all ethical conservation efforts. Agreeing to this legislation would show an absence of ethics and humane values of the conservation authority.
