I believe this bill is extremely short-sighted and subscribes to the false idea that opening up Ontario for business must come at the expense of environmental degradation. One of the many things that I love about Canada, I love about Ontario, is our green spaces. We are extremely fortunate to live in a country with a landscape as wonderful as ours and for that reason we all need to do our part in preserving it for future generations. Protecting our green space plays a critical part in this preservation effort.
Not only would this Bill have harsh and immediate environmental impacts, the argument could be made that it would have long-term negative economic impacts as well. Paving over our paradise will make Ontario a less desirable place to live, pursue a career, build a business, and pay taxes. It is my hope that our government can give this Bill a sober second thought before acting on it any further while keeping long term well being and not just short term profit in mind.
