This sounds like a poor use of public funds. By discouraging cycling, this is encouraging more motorized traffic, more traffic jams, and higher health costs from a less active population. Driving and being stuck behind a bike and the stress of having to pass is not worth it for me as a driver, and having my kids ride a bike will be a no-go if bike lanes are lost; I'll be getting them to drive as soon as they can even if this adds to the congestion. Bike lanes are cheap, encourage good health, and reduce car traffic, I don't understand what the government is thinking.
