I am very concerned that this bill will prevent new bike lanes from being built, as I live in Toronto and many streets are too narrow allow bike lanes without reducing vehicle lanes. I bike every day with my four year old in the back, and bike lanes allow us to visit playgrounds, go shopping, to go restaurants and do it safely and in an environmentally friendly way.
By taking away this option, you're making the city more dangerous for people to go around, you're making the streets less pleasant to walk down, you're increasing pollution while we are in a environmental crisis, and you're making our cities noisier.
The courts have shown that the bike lanes did not cause an increase in car traffic but did put more people's lives at stake. We deserve a safe city without fear of death from poor planning. Please allow municipalities to make the planning decisions that are right for us.
Without hyperbole, this bill may lead to more deaths in Ontario. Please reconsider. Our lives matter.
