A City Council determines the need and location for bike lanes.
The bicycle lanes do not hinder or block traffic. CONSTRUCTION sites block and slow automobile and public transit. There are no regulations prohibiting construction sites from putting skips, port a potties, or huge trucks in bike lanes. They are considered expendable. Please put the blame where it belongs.
The fastest way to get around Toronto is on a bicycle. Fedex and many delivery services use bike delivery vans that can travel more easily on narrow streets. Thanks to the bike lanes, it is much safer to ride here than it formerly was. This Bill would make it more dangerous and will increase the death rate.
Other municipalities may have other priorites. They must determine them with city council, not by diktat.
Bike and scooter riders and car drivers must all be subject to the rules of the road and follow the law. I would support this bill if, instead of a ban on bike lanes, it contained a provision for licensing bicycles and riders and scooters including motorized wheelchairs that use the bike lanes. This would require passing a test similar to a driving test where the bike and scooter riders understand signals, how to use lights and horns/bells, and follow the rules of the road just like the cars.
Licensing fees can be used to pay for maintenance of bike lanes. It is a vehicle like any other and should be treated as such. I will be the first in line for my license.
Dedicated bike lanes keep us safe.
I have been hit by an ebike rider who was on the sidewalk and passed on the right near some shop doors (I didn't think it was even possible to do this). I was rear ended by another bicycle who was trying to run a red light and thought I was going to go first. I didn't think this was possible either. Get rid of the bike lanes and it will become commonplace.
I want safe bike lanes, safe drivers, and safe bicyclists.
Bill 60 should be amended or withdrawn. Thank you.
