Centering all transportation planning around cars helps no one. Or even drivers. The best way to alleviate traffic congestion is to get people to choose other forms of transportation. Building bike lanes and well funded public transit does this. Taking away bike lanes will only put more in cars making congestion worse. Bike lanes make cycling feel safer and literally be safer so more people will choose to bike. When I drive I also prefer when cyclists are separated in a bike lane, driving feels safer too when there are bike lanes.
