As someone who bikes regularly, I’m deeply concerned about this proposal and what it means for our cities. It takes away local decision-making, even when projects are supported by residents and backed by evidence.

Bike lanes aren’t the cause of gridlock — the government’s own experts have said this many times. Removing them won’t fix congestion; it will only make roads less safe. Protected bike lanes save lives — for people biking, walking, and driving.

This proposal also threatens other uses of road space that communities depend on: transit priority, safe crossings, patios, curbside access, and school streets. It undermines local climate and public health goals by locking cities into car-focused street designs that we should be moving away from.

This isn’t about being “pro-bike” or “anti-car.” It’s about using evidence to plan safer, more functional streets and trusting cities to make decisions that reflect their communities.

No matter how many times Doug Ford repeats it, bike lanes don’t cause traffic congestion. Repeating it doesn’t make it true.

I bike because it’s efficient, affordable, and connects me to my city. Safe infrastructure makes that possible — and it benefits everyone, not just cyclists. Please don’t take that away.
