I live and work between the Humber and the Don Rivers. More specifically between Bathurst and Parliament and from the lake to St. Clair. The dedicated bike lanes have made traveling by bicycle somewhat easier for cyclists and for me as a car driver, not noticeably slower.
Taking away the rights of the citizens to shape their own city in a democratic way using elected municipal representatives and local bylaws seems unfair to me. The city has been thinking about these decisions for years and has a plan in place. The provincial government's proposal to remove existing bike lanes seems punitive and backward looking.
Perhaps the province should do what they do best and run the province and let the cities do what they do best and run the cities.
